Suspending an unpaid subscriber is the most sensitive automation an ISP will ever hand to software. Veloxiom implements it the way that generates the fewest support calls: a captive portal that explains the situation, a walled garden that still allows payment, and automatic reconnection the second the money is matched.
Graduated enforcement
- Reminders before and after the due date, with no effect on the connection.
- Soft suspension — the session stays up but is moved into a walled-garden address list that redirects to an explanatory page.
- Hard disconnect after the number of days you configure.
Every stage is rule-driven, applied by a scheduled job, and reversible automatically. Grace periods are set per customer, exceptions can be tagged (public bodies, payment arrangements, critical infrastructure), and each action is recorded with the rule that caused it and the amount that was open.
Safety rules that prevent accidents
- Rules apply from the day you enable them — historical balances are never enforced retroactively.
- A per-run cap: if a rule suddenly matches hundreds of subscribers, something is wrong with the data, not with your customers.
- Reconnection does not need a human — a matched payment triggers a RADIUS CoA.
- A full audit trail of every suspension and restoration.
Hotspot for guests and public Wi-Fi
The same infrastructure serves guest access: a branded login page, terms acceptance, optional SMS or voucher authentication, and time or volume limits enforced through RADIUS. There is no second system to operate — the same accounting and the same reporting.
Frequently asked questions
Does the captive portal work with HTTPS?
HTTPS cannot be redirected without a certificate error, so redirection is done over HTTP together with the captive-portal checks that iOS, Android and Windows perform — and DNS must be allowed through the walled garden.
What about connections that never open a browser?
That is why soft suspension is not the only step: after the configured days a hard disconnect follows, and notifications also go out by email or SMS.
How fast is reconnection after payment?
Seconds, when payment arrives through a gateway webhook or an RF-matched bank transaction.
Can I exempt specific customers?
Yes — per-customer grace periods and customer labels keep business and public-sector accounts out of automatic enforcement.
